Prague’s Old Town is the very oldest part of the city. Excavations of cellars going down several levels below the ground indicates the area has been permanently prohibited since at least the term of the first millennium, and probably we;; before then. The center of the old Prague, appropriately named Old Town Square, has served as Prague’s main market for over 1000 years. The square is home to most amazing sights, including the famous Astrinomical Clock. Narrow, cobblestoned lanes radiate from the square in all directions following a plan that defies any plan of logic. There are no straight lines here; indeed the streets look as though they were carved by nature rather than the work of man. The best approach is to choose a direction, wander at will and lose yourself amid a largely undisturbed 14th-century townscape.
